Three ways to engage.
Each engagement is led by Matheau Dakoske. The difference between them is the shape of the problem, not the quality of attention.
Fractional CTO
For founders and executives who need senior technology leadership without a full-time hire. This is ownership of the technology function: architecture, engineering, security and compliance posture, vendor and budget decisions, and the executive communication that comes with the seat, from board discussions to presentations for partners and investors.
The typical client is an early- or growth-stage company where technology is core to the business model: alternative-asset platforms, real estate and fintech companies, or any founder building serious software with a small team. The engagement covers what a full-time CTO would own, scaled to the hours the stage actually requires.
Head of Engineering
For companies that already have a CTO or founder-technologist and need someone to run engineering day-to-day. Delivery cadence, code quality, hiring and contractor decisions, technical mentorship, and the operational rigor a growing function requires.
Code Line has run engineering at both ends of the spectrum: as the sole architect of a platform now operating a substantial pipeline, and as technical lead of a ~12-person cross-functional team through a company's primary strategic initiative. Knowing how to architect for a team of two and how to hand off to a team of twelve is the point of this service.
Principal Architect
For companies facing one hard, well-defined problem that requires senior judgment. Legacy modernization. A compliance migration that cannot break revenue. A build-vs-buy decision with long consequences. M&A technical due diligence and post-acquisition integration for PE firms, search funds, and acquirers.
These engagements are typically project-shaped rather than ongoing. The reference case: a company-wide PCI compliance migration across a large-revenue operation, moving every credit card system to zero-retention hosted profiles with no downtime and no customer-facing impact.
How engagements work
Retainers, not timesheets.
Engagements run 10 to 20 hours per week on a monthly retainer, remote by default, with travel and on-site time available when the work calls for it. Project-shaped work, such as due diligence or a defined migration, is quoted as a fixed engagement.
Code Line takes on a small number of clients at a time, and every engagement is served personally by Matheau from first conversation to delivery.
